What is Acne?

Acne (pimples) is a skin condition characterized by inflammatory lesions, blackheads, or red bumps, primarily caused by clogged pores, oil accumulation, and hormonal factors. Acne is typically seen on the face, back, neck, and chest, and sometimes on the shoulders and buttocks.

Why Does Acne (Pimples) Occur?

  • Genetic predisposition,
  • Hormonal factors,
  • Stress and anxiety,
  • Using incorrect cosmetic products,
  • Inflammatory conditions in the body.

How is Acne Treated?

Acne treatment varies from person to person. The appropriate treatment is chosen considering the severity of the acne, its location, the individual's skin type, age, and gender. Treatment should be applied under a doctor's supervision.

  • Cream treatment: Creams containing substances such as salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, retinoic acid, and azelaic acid can be used. Antibiotic creams can be used for inflammatory acne.
  • Systemic treatment: In moderate to severe acne, medication from the antibiotic group may be necessary.
  • Other treatments: Treatments such as laser and chemical peeling can also be applied for acne.

How Do Acne Scars Go Away?

Acne scars appear as indentations and depressions on the face or as brown spots. Permanent scars are not limited to color differences visible on the skin surface; they also involve loss of elasticity and contractions in the connective tissue beneath the skin. If the connective tissue is not restructured, acne scars may not disappear completely.

Methods used to reduce acne scars include **Fractional CO2 laser**, **Fractional Radiofrequency (Morpheus 8 treatment)**, or **chemical peeling**. Laser treatment is more effective for individuals with color differences on the face. Chemical peeling, being a process of exfoliating the skin's upper surface, may be insufficient for eliminating scars in the deeper layers of the skin.

Is Squeezing Acne Correct?

Squeezing acne to clean it is not correct. Because squeezing vigorously damages the skin, causes the spread of infection, and delays the healing process.
